LifeLab+

LifeLab+

LifeLab+ was my largest and highest profile project spinning out from my research at GCU.

I was responsible for managing £330k of this £2.2m project and lead the design and development of the digital aspects of this complex diet and physical activity intervention. Working closely with young people and experts in behaviour change at the University of Southampton’s MRC Unit, I developed methods of co-design that we use to identify the values and desired experiences of adolescents. Our app, LifeLab+, is designed to appeal to these values by offering a social experience with a rich storyline that allows our users to lead their own health behaviour change rather than having one foisted upon them by adults.

I have been involved in every aspect of this project. I co-wrote the application for funding, led the strategic integration of psychological principles with design practices, created and facilitated a series of co-design workshops with target users, co-created our personas, identified the hub-and-spoke paradigm of the app, guided the game design, software and database architecture, user testing and am currently contributing to the formal evaluation.

The product we launched won the “Advanced Commendation” prize at the 2020 IEGC Awards.
